Nachdem wir in der ersten Woche nur leichte Winde hatten, sind wir in der zweiten Woche in eine Südwestströmung gekommen, die mit drei bis 6 Windstärken eine Woche durchgehalten hat. Je nach Windstärke sind wir mit Groß, teilweise im ersten oder zweiten Reff und Fock, einen Tag nur mit Fock flott vorangekommen. vor allem vor dem Wind hat sich dieses System bewährt, da anders als die Genua die Fock durchgelattet ist und bei wenig Wind nicht ständig einfällt. Diese Strömung hat uns auch unser bestes Etmal mit 127 Meilen gebracht. 300 Meilen vor den Azoren hat jemand auf den Schalter gedrückt und der Wind war komplett aus, wir hatten das Azorenhoch erreicht, wie uns auch das Barometer gezeigt hat. Also starteten wir den Motor und tuckerten mit 1800 Touren bei einem Liter Verbrauch in der Stunde gegen Osten. Etwa die Hälfte der Zeit gab es dann doch soviel Wind das wir wieder segeln konnten, manchmal nur ein bis zwei Stunden, manchmal einen halben Tag. In der letzten Nacht kam der Wind dann genau aus Osten, wir segelten hart am Wind bis 40 Meilen an Flores heran, bevor er wieder einschlief. Die letzten 40 Meilen motorten wir dann wieder und nach 18 Tagen und zwei Stunden waren wir auf Flores, ohne in einen Sturm geraten zu sein, sicher ein seltenes Ereigniss auf dieser Strecke. Laut Logge legten wir dabei 2000 Meilen durchs Wasser zurück, 320 mehr als die direkte Strecke aufweist. Dazu hat sicher auch einen Gegenströmung beigetragen, die wir an drei bis vier Tagen hatten.
Der Fischfang war unbefriedigend, wir hatten drei Bisse, einer befreite sich sofort, ein 80 cm Thun glitt noch vom Haken, gerade als ich ihm über die Reling heben wollte, dafür war der gefangene Schwertfisch ausgezeichnet und hat uns drei Mahlzeiten beschert.
Das Wetter war die erste Woche warm und sonnig, mit einem kurzen Regenschauer. Ab der zweiten Woche war es kühler, die Wassertemperatur sank von über 25° C bei den Bermudas auf 21°C in der zweiten Woche. Vor allem auf Nachtwache waren Fleecepullover und Segelzeug angesagt. Jetzt hatten wir auch ein paar bedeckte Tage, einmal eine Nacht lang Nebel mit Sicht unter hundert Metern. Die letzten zwei Tage waren wieder sonnig, das Cockpit blieb auch in der Nacht wieder trocken.
Durchschnittlich legten wir 93 Meilen pro Tag zurück, 34 Meilen weniger als von den Kap Verden in die Karibik.
