26 April, 2010 | Kategorie: Segeln 2009 | 2.128 KommentareNachdem wir von St Thomas nach St John gesegelt sind, haben wir vorerst in der Cruz Bay geankert, damit wir das Nationalparkcenter besuchen können. Zwei Drittel von St John sind Nationalpark, es gibt einige Regel die im Nationalpark zu beachten sind.
Eine nette Dame hat uns Auskunft gegeben, weil es schon spät war haben wir beschlossen hier zu übernachten, weil in der Cruz Bay dafür keine Gebühren anfallen. Die fünfzehn Dollar wären gut investiert gewesen, denn bis spät in die Nacht herrscht hier reger Bootsverkehr, die meisten preschen mit Vollgas durch die Einfahrt, damit alle Boote in der Bucht schön schaukeln. Wenn uns das nicht wachgehalten hätte, dann die zahlreichen Gelsen die über uns herfielen. Gleich zeitig am nächsten Morgen fuhren wir auf die Nordseite von St John, bereits um acht Uhr legten wir an einer der Bojen in der Maho Bay an. Hier beginnen ein paar der Wanderwege durch den Nationalpark. Na ja, zumindest am Anfang sah der Maria Hope Trail wie ein trockenes Bachbett aus, erst später wurde ein Weg daraus. Dieser Trail führt durch eine der feuchtesten Gegenden von St John und am Beginn des Cinnamon Trail der uns vom Hauptkamm der Insel wieder an die Küste führte, begann es zu regnen. Es regnete bis wir wieder an der Küste waren, trotzdem hat uns die mehrstündige Wanderung gut gefallen. Da an diesem Tag kaum Wind war, legten wir von der Boje ab und fuhren noch Weiter durch die Meerenge The Narrows, zwischen St John und dem britischen Tortola, wo normalerweise starke Strömungen sind. In der Waterlemonbay machten wir wieder an einer der Bojen fest. Eigentlich sollten wir hier fürs Übernachten 15 Dollar zahlen, die hatten wir aber nicht in klein. Die Golden Girls auf dem Nachbarboot sagten uns, dass um 18h ein Nationalparkbeauftragter kassieren kommen wird, der hatte natürlich auch kein Wechselgeld, wozu auch wenn die Nacht 15 Dollar kostet und alle Geldautomaten nur 20er ausspucken. Aber wir bekamen ein Formular zum Bezahlen mit einer Kreditkarte. Das ausgefüllte Formular wird in einem Kuvert in eine Kiste geworfen, die zu diesem Zweck auf einem Floß befestigt war.
Am nächsten Tag erwanderten wir uns den Johnny Horn Trail bis zur Abzweigung zum Brown Bay Trail und wieder zurück. Diesmal fiel der Regen viel unergiebiger aus. Als wir am Boot zurück waren, zeigte die Batterieanzeige nur viertel voll, also motorten wir zum Batterieaufladen weiter die Küste entlang bis zur Südküste von St John. Hier fanden wir in der Hansenbay einen einsamen Ankerplatz in der Nähe des Nationalparks. Die letzen beiden Tage fuhren wir immer am Morgen in den Nationalpark, hier ist das Übernachten an der Boje nicht gestattet und am Abend zurück in die Hansenbay, wo wir praktischerweise auch Gratisinternet hatten, leider aber keinen Strom, aber zumindest um den aktuellen Wetterbericht herunterzuladen reichte es. Hier an der Südseite im Watercreek und im Ottercreek ist das Wasser sogar bis zwischen die Mangrovenwurzeln klar, was wir bis jetzt in der Karibik noch nie sahen.
